To be fair, Ludwig here is being sarcastic. He is praising Jesus by denigrating the conservative straw men in his head. “Damned Hippie” is not a serious charge. He is saying the good works that Jesus did would be hated by us wingnuts, and that Jesus would be considered a “damned Hippie” by us.
My take is he’s saying that we religious conservatives are being hypocritical if we object to being taxed and regulated by socialists intent on remaking society and us as they see fit as long as the socialists invoke a religion, which incidentally they don’t believe in, as the basis for their planned society. A standard socialist trope, and utterly fatuous.
