They wouldn’t be above using it as a mechanism for destroying whatever else has been built on the Ground Zero site.

When did the Johnson get brain damaged?

My guess is back in his jazz days, but the effects were slow and cumulative.

Think about it, why did his fellow jazzmen nickname him “Icarus”…because he “flew” too “high” and got “burned” (out).

      Get it?

Did he get a death threat so hideous — or a threat against his loved ones — that might account for this 180 with regards to Islam? Seriously, people don’t change on a dime like this without having their mind fucked with in a serious manner.

Let me take this opportunity, once again, to propose a Constitutional amendment making it clear that Islam is not a religion protected by the First Amendment, but an expansionist, enemy, totalitarian political philosophy. If Germany can ban all expressions of Nazism, we can certainly do the same with Islam.

That’s a terrible idea. People should be held accountable for their actions, not their beliefs. It is not illegal under current law to be a communist—but it is illegal to advocate the overthrow of the government by force and violence. By the same token, it should not be illegal to be Muslim—but any Muslim who advocates the overthrow of the government by force and violence, which includes to my mind advocating jihad, the imposition of sharia law in any way upon non-Muslims (or upon Muslims other than voluntarily), or any violent action aimed at furthering such objectives, should be dealt with to the full extent of the law.

The problem is not that we do not have laws to address this; the problem is that we do not have public servants with the balls to enforce the law. Outlawing Islam will merely open the door to outlawing any other ideology disliked by the party in power; enforcing the laws we already have would take care of the problem.

Great point buzz. Is is the USA not an African dictatorship.

      • July 19, 2010 at 1:18 pm | #16

I disagree. Islam is INHERENTLY hostile to everything outside of itself, and that includes America, the US Constitution, and all of Judaeo-Christian civilization.

That is why I suggest that it be a Constitutional amendment narrowly focused on Islam, and excluding everything else from its purview. That way it could not be used as an excuse for outlawing other ideologies that somebody in power disagrees with. It isn’t easy to enact a Constitutional amendment; thus, I am convinced that this would not open the door to attacks on anything else.

Read Buzz’s response a little more carefully. He never denied any of that, he just said that that would create a legal snake that could bite back. The existing apparatus is structured just fine. The problem is getting the DoJ to do their jobs and follow the law. If they won’t follow the law, no law on the books will help the situation.

        1389AD,

Just as Barry is now perverting well-meant legislation enacted by Bush and earlier administrations, making Islam illegal can and will be used later for means and circumstances unintended and unwarranted.

There are already laws making the seizure and overthrow of our legal system and government illegitimate. Enforce the existing laws, don’t create more laws that ultimately will be selectively enforced and benefits the ruling elites.

The solution is to ban Islamic immigration. We don’t have to allow them here. It’s our right to refuse entry.

      • July 20, 2010 at 1:47 pm | #20

That is true also. In fact, we already refuse entry to ex-Nazis and to people who practice polygamy or who intend to practice it in the US. Anybody who subscribes to Islam should automatically be considered to be a potential polygamist. There are already too many instances of de facto polygamy being practiced by Muslim immigrants to the US.

Sorry, can’t go along with that one. The 1st Amendment protects speech, religion, press etc, no matter how abhorrent those ideas might be.

Now, if a country without our 1st Amendment protections were to treat Islam in the same way some Muslim countries (Saudi Arabia for example) treats Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism and other faiths, then I’d seriously consider moving there.

      • July 20, 2010 at 1:51 pm | #22

It isn’t the abhorrence of Islam that concerns me, it is the fact that it is in itself a direct attack on our freedom to continue practicing our own way of life.

If our Constitution protects the “right” of others to manipulate our system so as to take our own freedom away, then it carries the seeds of its own destruction. We are already seeing that happen, and I’ve had enough. I would rather take my chances with having a Constitutional amendment that narrowly, and specifically, exempts Islam from First Amendment protections.

Has anyone considered this the other way around. With this grand mosque, will the muslims then be telling New York what they can or cannot put around it? As in something that might violate their religion? They are sneaky bastards like that.

    • July 20, 2010 at 1:52 pm | #24

That’s the way it always seems to work. Muslims abuse the freedoms in our system as a tool to take our freedoms away. We need to put a stop to it.

If I had the money, I’d airdrop Bacon Bits all over the site.

Would anyone be allowed to build a Christian church in Mecca?
Or anywhere else in the middle east for that matter?

Why is it that America must kiss the muslim world’s ass while they treat us as second class citizens?
