seriously, why does that make sense.

Is it accepted belief that the UN is in cahoots with the Lebanese or Palestinians in attempts to kill Israelis?

Yes. Charles has posted numerous threads about this.

        You go Cato.

How can anyone think the UN is NOT in cahoots with islamonutz? What is it like 90% of the resolutions they friggen pass that are against ISRAEL? Out of all of the atrocities going on in the world they focus on Israel’s self defense and/or their construction@!!~!111@1!!!!

Cato had at least some flavor – bitter chard , but flavor, and originality.
His wordsmanship was deft and cutting.
He diminished himself in his deference to Charles and his irrational vituperation of Palin.
I do not know what to think of the “meatspace” allusion to mortality.
I do not think that meatspace Cato will find meatspace companionship. His persona is only tolerable online.

Ha! I first read the name as “Lindane”– a medication to kill body lice and scabies (I was a pharmacy tech for a long time, you learn some very weird things!)… Would be a fitting name, since leftards are notoriously filthy and nasty creatures. That Li(n)dane thing, being a leftard, would know all about scabies and body lice, from firsthand experience.

He is being a bit of a primadonna though.

Not a lame flounce at all. There is no glory in leaving an angry goodbye message.

Cato the Elder was one of the finest posters on LGF, a bit grumpy at times and to my left politically, but he wrote with humour, wit, and style.

I too found the moonbat hecklers too much to bear, they have poisoned what remains of a once vibrant online community. The silly use of meaningless emoticons and constant passive-aggressive jibes typify the lower standards of discourse that dominate the new LGF. An empty collection of husks with very few seeds.

    • Overlook
      August 4, 2010 at 1:55 am | #39

There is a fair amount of stupidity in Cato’s comment about not saying anything bad about the place, or going to the stalkers.
What is he being loyal to? A place with a high stupidity quotient?
And who would know or care if he came over here and disparaged the stupids over there under a new nic: how about “Taco”?
He has never avoided being being disliked.
But, as I have said, his was an original voice.

        Overlook,

Why would he go someplace that has been nasty to him? (Don’t get me wrong, I wish he would.)

Also, there is no rule that says he must slam the place once he has left. His very leaving is a significant blow to that relic of a blog.

One of the finest posters on LGF..well that’s not saying much. Considering he is the most vile vicious vulguar pos that attacked Mandy at the bequest of another vile vicious pos, Weasil. (course Mandy must like that abuse as she comes back to defend him) And any grown man who mocks and degrades a child such as he does the child of Sarah Palin does not deserve the air he breathes.

Personally I don’t give a damm if he leaves or stays but he is not leaving. He is a poor little boy who wants attention.

    • My Little Ponytail
      August 4, 2010 at 10:46 am | #44

The mistake that you’re making is accepting the underlying assumption that the poisonous atmosphere there is the doing of all the noobs, and not of Mr. Johnson himself. You need to decompress a little more. Then it will come into focus: Mr. Johnson drove the transition. He drove the old out, and invited (and in some cases privileged) the new.

This wasn’t some nefarious scheme from the outside, this is his plan. And it’s not finished, either. He’s using spacejesus to send up the antisemitic trial balloons, but in the end, Israel is going to be under the bus, and the terrorists are going to be heroes, and when that happens, the rebranding will be complete.

      It won’t be long.

Yeah the ‘leave my account open so I can get my poetry” is a little hokey. The poems were a new thing for him, so there wasn’t a huge collection (unlike Buzz’s), and you’d think he’d have a local copy already just in the process of composing them. (Funny how Buzz’s ban seemed to create a poetry void over there that some, like Cato, were compelled to fill.)

Like you say, not the first flounce for Cato, probably not the last. But it does illustrate the tension over there between the new guard, true believing, bona fide leftists and the old guard putative conservatives who’ve been converted to never-satisfied concern-trolls by CJ’s 180 degree political turn.

I will say this for Cato; before he went off the rails on his wild Palin Derangement Ride, he was an interesting guy to talk to. I have some downloads of a literary/Biblical exchange he and I had maybe a year and a half, two years ago, in which I deeply enjoyed the erudite and respectful exchange.

We had a little clash over verses—he very emphatically didn’t like one of mine, and was not in the least circumspect in saying why—which I found nettling, but too much easy praise is good for nobody. In recognition and appreciation of his serving the role of the slave muttering, “You are mortal” to the honoree of a Triumph, I avoided commenting on his verses, about which the less said the better.

I think that his walking off of Yertle’s place not because of any direct quarrel with Yertle or his pet rodent, but because he would no longer post on a site where certain noxious posters were tolerated, shows a certain character—and I salute him for it, if slightly grudgingly.

    • Arachne
      August 4, 2010 at 5:07 pm | #55

BSW – yep, the Cato I remember before my ethically enforced exile was interesting, and fun. When I first learned of his Palin Derangement Syndrome and misogynist remarks, I have to say I was really taken aback.

I think we might see Cato here, but certainly not under that nic – but it’s more likely he’ll come back in a week or two. From all accounts, this is Cato’s only social network and outlet.

But Cato – if you cruise by, I applaud you for not following the herd mentality and throwing Israel and the Jews under the bus. Because I have no doubt in my mind that Charles Cockroach Johnson is paving the way to do just that.

    • Bagua
      August 4, 2010 at 5:18 pm | #56

Agreed. Cato showed good character is exiting the way he did, as he did by subtly mocking the freaks while he was there. Much of what he said was misunderstood without this context.

Those surprised by his exit missed the points he made, those who knew how to read him were counting the days.

Cheers Buzzsawmonkey, you are a mench.

  24. Formercorpsman
    August 4, 2010 at 11:03 am | #58

Once upon a time, you could agree to disagree there, strongly if it was the case, but there was always a common thread at the end of the day.

For whatever reason, (I have my own opinion) it became what it is today. I had plenty of good exchanges with Cato, and of course I thought he was totally wrong on others.

The difference being, most rationale folks, were either banned, walked, or never went back once it became evident that place jumped the shark. Others did their best to try to hold on, finding what redemption they could of what might still have been there, only to find reality hitting them upside the head like a tire iron eventually.

The inverse, are those who stayed, willingly I might add, knowing the bar had been lowered, and often looking to set the bar even lower themself. Cato participated in that. Some of the Palin stuff was beyond comprehension. Going after Zombie, etc.

    It is what it is.

Cato’s a drama queen. He’s desperate for attention and respect, which are sorely lacking in meatspace.

He won’t stop posting at LGF, unless he is banned. Which is a distinct possibility.

I found his persona off-putting, with just a little too much stilted arrogance in his overall tone. I appreciate characters, in general, but I found his character unappealing. I’m not even the world’s greatest Palin-fan, but I like her a helluva lot more than I like the goons who are constantly attacking her.
