The Jazz Man stereotypes Hispanics
I have often explain why I hate Progressives, they are racists. In their bigoted minds, Hispanic must vote for them or they will not make it in America. An example of this is Harry Reid saying Hispanics should not vote Republican. This was a bigoted statement implying that Hispanics must all be the same. It’s a sign of collectivism, one which is actually racist. The jazz Man agrees and shows his prejudice.

Hispanics are individuals like everyone else. We have different reasons to vote the way we do. I vote Republican because of Progressives like sarahlover.
This is why I don’t vote for Democrats. Their condensing Racial views are one that I abhor. They are true racists and the Jazz Man is in their camp.

As I recall, that was said in reference to the Spanish conquest of the New World, the expulsion of the Jews and Muslims in 1492, the Inquisition, etc.
Well, yeah—that may have been barbaric. But frankly, everybody was pretty barbaric back then. The Muslims the Spaniards were fighting? Yes. The Aztecs and Caribs? Yes. The Incas? I’m not as up on them, but I believe they and the Maya also practiced human sacrifice.
Practically everybody was “barbaric” back then, by modern standards—some, like the Aztecs, more than others. If the Jews manage to avoid the accusation of “barbarism,” it was in large part, frankly, to the Jews being a stateless and disenfranchised minority everywhere, rather than ascribable to any innate virtue: standards were different. I am sure that, had they had the chance, there would have been some Jews who would have matched the “barbarism” of any of the other peoples among whom they lived.
To suggest that the Spaniards were intentionally engaging in genocide against the Indians is silly; they wanted slaves. Indians died in massive numbers under Spanish rule, as they did under the rule of the British and French in North America, because of diseases to which the one population was more immune than the other. And that “genocide” was hardly successful; there are descendants of the Incas, the Maya, and the Aztecs alive today.
The Inquisition was a horror, no question—but to suggest that today’s Spaniards are somehow culpable for what their ancestors did 500 years ago is stupid and obscene.
Which brings us to Reid’s comment. That was blatantly, out and out racist—because it was rooted in the notion that on the basis of skin color or national/ethnic origin, Hispanics have interests different from other people. That is true only to someone who views the world through a thoroughly racist lens, regarding people as the prisoner of their ethnicity rather than viewing people on the basis of what they have in common.
Sarahlover has to understand the role the Almohads played in exterminating the remaining Christians from the Maghreb as well as the fact that in a single year, 1148, they slaughtered 100,000 Jews in Fez and 120,000 Jews in Marrakesh; they forced all Jews and Christians in their realm to either convert or die or leave (predating the Spanish Inquisition by 4 centuries) and killed possibly thousands of Muslims they deemed heretics and apostates (including ibn Shoshan, friend of Maimonides, one of the anusim or crypto-Jews forced to live as Muslims by the Almohads). They also destroyed all remnants of pre-Islamic civilization in the kingdom of Ghana.
