Midwesterners and Southerners have always been derided by Urbanites as Clay-Eating Morons. But this is going beyond dehumanization, into the category of expressing so much contempt that only the most demeaning forms of servitude are deemed worthy for the dehumanized class/race.

This time around, if they don’t learn to mind their manners, the NEXT civil war will break down as urban vs. rural. With the deindustrialization of today’s urban centers, they will NOT win this time around.

Not to split hairs, but technically there are almost no WASP hicks. Southerners tended to come from Scotts Irish stock, and were never considered “white” (and certainly weren’t Anglo-Saxon) by the Northeastern WASPS.
Ironically, the roots of the Northeastern disdain for “racist” Southerners can be traced to WASP disdain for Celtic and other non-Anglo Saxon people in the South, who literally weren’t considered “white” 100 years ago.
Also LA is predominantly Catholic, which makes it different from many parts of the south.
True; Catholics were definitely not WASP, and definitely not considered “white” by the Northeastern WASPs. In fact, it was really the defining difference. If you were Catholic, that usually meant that you were Irish or Italian or Polish. That by itself made you unwhite in the eyes of the Northeastern WASPS.
