“We got mail” part two

November 16, 2010

In reference to the email from ‘Activelizard’ that Chen discussed on the earlier thread. Everything that comes to us from the ‘Contact the Cast’ has an IP address attached at the bottom of the email that we get. The IP address from Activelizard is 68.48.125.2 and when you trace that IP address, you get this…

And there are some like wolfie who are on to the game.

Ludwig has the same IP address. EPIC FAIL, Luddie. Again, thanks for playing!

Comcast wouldn’t be a university address. That’s home. In mom’s basement. Outside chance that it could be a small business, but by far most likely a home connection.

  7. November 16, 2010 at 3:41 pm | #11

I thought Cato was located in Lanham. Is it possible they’re one and the same, Cato and Ludwig? Always struck me as odd that Cato disappeared without a whimper; maybe he didn’t.

    • My Little Ponytail
      November 16, 2010 at 3:47 pm | #12

That would tend to support my froll theory. Cato/Ludwig is just yanking Chuck’s chain, seeing what he can get away with. I mean, nobody can be that stupid, can they?

      • November 16, 2010 at 3:53 pm | #13

It’d be onerous for Cato/Ludwig to keep that charade up with Johnson, so it seems a stretch they’re one and the same unless Johnson’s in on it too, another stretch.

Maybe this is Cato imitating Ludwig’s style?

(Don’t remember how I got the impression Cato was in Lanham, MD, but I did – and since Cato’s identity is known his location is also known …)

        Here:

        Akismet Comment Spam Fighter
This section has been requested to be merged into Plugins/Akismet.
Current versions of WordPress come with Akismet installed by default. Akismet uses a unique algorithm combined with a community-created database to “learn” which comments are comment spam and which are legitimate.

To enable Akismet on your WordPress blog, go to the Plugins panel and activate the Plugin. A menu is added to the Comments Panel and holds a list of “caught” comment spam.

If comment spam gets through Akismet’s net, mark it as comment spam in your Comments Panel. Do not delete it. By marking it “comment spam”, the information is sent to Akismet and added to the community-created database.

Frequently, check through the caught comment spam in the Akismet Panel to look for false/negatives, legitimate comment spam that has been caught by Akismet. Mark it as Not Spam and click Despam at the bottom of the page to remove these comments from the list.

My Comments Get Caught By Akismet
Akismet learns by those who mark comment spam as comment spam and legitimate spam is despammed. If your comments are being caught by Akismet, remove them from the Akismet Panel. It might take two or three times, but it will learn and automatically not designate your comments as spam.

Commenters on your blog may have their comments caught by Akismet. If you do not regularly check your Akismet Panel, have an easy way of allowing readers to email you if their comment did not appear.

With updates to the database and major changes to the software, this process may have to be repeated.

If you continue to have problems with Akismet catching your comments or too many of your readers’ comments, contact Akismet for more assistance.

        Artificial intelligence is dumb.

  21. November 16, 2010 at 4:34 pm | #39

I agree. I thought the whole point of DoD was to encourage ‘dialogue’ between the two sites.

The spam filter ought to be set on minus eleven.

      • My Little Ponytail
        November 16, 2010 at 6:10 pm | #73

        1. The purpose of this site isn’t to encourage dialog. It’s to make fun of them.

        2. Nobody has the foggiest clue how to operate that spam filter.

      • November 16, 2010 at 6:26 pm | #74

Trust me, there isn’t much ‘dialogue’ goin’ on. The lizard’s here to piss and moan and taunt in a thread that might have been a bad idea to begin with.

This IP tracking and identity sleuthing is something that we’ve seen CJ do in the past and ironically is where you can make the case that you really have moved into “stalking” territory, especially when you post it up for everyone.

We will make our points more credible by not doing this. Let’s not pull a CJ, in other words.

And as far as blocking the lizard, half of me wants to let it out. This is it’s own thread, after all. But there ain’t much substance.

      • November 16, 2010 at 6:55 pm | #75

  40. November 16, 2010 at 6:43 pm | #91

BTW- Only the site admin. has the power to adjust the blacklist in the spam filter. On a wordpress.com blog it’s under “settings”, then “discussion settings”. All I can do is resurrect the individual comments one at a time, so it’s out of my hands.

    • November 16, 2010 at 6:48 pm | #92

If you use Akismet as your primary spam filter, the preliminary spam filtering will take place under the control of Akismet. If somebody is wrongly being spam-filtered, then either that person or the blog admin will need to contact Akismet directly to ask that the setting be changed.

Where did you and LvQ ‘debate’? If here, there’s an IP…

No. It was done half duplex style. His posts were there.

And a pedantic point for ‘Activelizard’:

You’re not banned. The spam filter decided of its own volition to quarantine your comments. Nobody here knows how to adjust the algorithm. Letting the comments out has to be done through a laborious process. There are 23 comments stuck in there, and somebody with the right privileges might, if he feels like it, let them loose. OTOH, maybe we won’t. But if you’re being censored, it’s by software that we don’t understand. Probably something you said. Something not very nice. I don’t know. Just a hunch.

    But you’re not banned.

Well assuming it’s really not triggering on IP, to get 23 out of 23 it has to be triggering on the nic. So …… use another nic?

      /not a genius like LvQ…

If you read how the algorithm works, once it cans a few from a certain nic (and/or IP?) That itself becomes a suspicion factor. Which means that eventually it will end up doing that. After enough get sent that way, you’re essentially presumed spam, and for practical intents and purposes banned. I just don’t know if it’s on nic, email, IP or some combination.

What started those comments (and yours and Bunk’s) going to spam in the first place remains a mystery.

Well since 5arah10v3r was able to come back as Act1v3l12ard with the same IP address, that seems to eliminate IP.

And since there’s nothing inherently spammish about the words 5arah10v3r or Act1v3l12ard the inference is that someone here is training Akismet by marking their comments as spam.

    FWIW…

I let two out this morning, when that was all that was in there. AFAIK, it was catching all of them. That would tend to suggest that it was using IP.

But whoever it is isn’t banned. Comments from the IP banned don’t even get to the spam filter.

It could be somebody on some other blog entirely, training Akismet by marking their comments as spam. Akismet is in use all over the intertoobz.

It wasn’t me, though. The only stuff I mark as spam on my own blog is the scammy commercial stuff.

    ChenZhen, as The Minotaur :

BINGO- or am I too late to comment on this thread?
King – take down the IP address on this thread.

Don’t worry about the IP address. Nobody can determine jack from it.

That IP address is to the server farm. Just giving a general idea of where our stalkers are.

And why does anyone worry about it being “mean” or “wrong”? These freaks are like the jihadis: THEY never play by the rules, but they count on us to do so, to guarantee them an advantage. So, piss on the rules. No respect for these wankers.
