I have actually seen (Melanie Phillips thread) a leftist claiming that if one believes that it is foolish to believe in world-wide conspiracies, then it is foolish to give credence to world-wide antisemitism.
In other words, the salience of the Protocols is not that it lied about Jews, but that it made conspiracy into a lie. So now no international conspirators may exist.
It’s not as if Soros’ associations and aims are any secret. It may be politically tone-deaf on his part, but Soros has been quite open about his goals in the US.
Perhaps he is somewhat of a lightning rod because there are plenty of other rich patrons of the left (Heinz, for example), but Soros did this to himself by speaking so frankly in the media. I don’t think he sees a problem with a foreigner waltzing into a country that isn’t his, and trying to direct events. Ironic, because the left has a name for this kind of behavior: imperialism.

1) The “Protocols” is a forgery; it is a paranoid bigot’s fantasy of Jewish domination. Since it was written by paranoid bigots, it taps perfectly into the mindset of other paranoid bigots, which accounts for its continuing popularity in certain quarters.
2) George Soros is a real person, who has done real things that harm real people. These actual events by an actual person have nothing to do with a hundred-year-old paranoid fantasy.
3) One of the things that Soros himself has done is make his distaste for the religion of the Jewish people, and the self-determination of the Jewish people in Israel, part of the public record. He has never been sympathetic with “Yiddishkeit” in any way, shape or form, and is very much on record as being virulently opposed to it.
4) Beck’s attack on Soros, by all accounts (I did not see it), made absolutely nothing of Soros’ tenuous connection to the Jewish people by accident of birth. Rather, Beck attacked Soros’ genuine actions, leaving any “Jewish connection” entirely alone.
5) There is, thus, no connection whatsoever between Beck’s attack/exposure of Soros and the “Protocols,” or Soros’ ethnicity. It is a complete false equivalence; an attempt by a mendacious fool to scream “dogwhistle!” so loudly that the unspoken “implications” that he is imagining obscure the actual facts and the actual presentation.

I can’t speak at all to the main topic, but as to his alleged knowledge of science: his use most of all, of appeal to authority as his primary method of persuasion, is very much in line with certain fashionable philosophies on the left and not at all so with a creditable education in the sciences.
It is also very unlike a person with a proper science education to speak of theories as “proven”. Theories are never proved but are at best not disproved. Such talk is typical among subscribers to the frustrating strain of thought in the culture that views all things as knowable by means of science. This strain turns science in to a faith and while its adherents, like LudwigVanIgnoramus, will never recognize it, leads logically to solipsism.

Wow, that was the most deranged posting I have attempted to read in a long time. Sorry, just couldn’t get through the whole thing. At best it was incoherent, at worst insane. Totally contradictory positions in the same paragraph, betrayed a woeful lack of either historical, religious, or scientific knowledge. Deranged would be the best description. Granted, I only read about the first 1/2 — did the second half get any better?
