It was a bland, boring week at the swamp last week. The departure of Walter seems to have been the last gasp of independent thinking there.

The average karma for every single comment last week at LGF was +1.70. Newcomer to the bottom ten navi won top spot in average negative karma. Relative oldtimer sattv4u2 took first place in total accumulated negative karma.

Dee’s NYT article, characterizing LGF as ‘the blog version of Animal Farm’ where a couple of dozen posters are responsible for most of the comments is still accurate. Last week 25 lizards were responsible for 60.8% of all LGF comments for the week. [previous week's stats]

Last week cannadian club akbar displaced albusteve as most prolific LGF commenter. Charles wasn’t one of the top 25 commenters last week, and total comments were off about 20% from the week before. Coincidence, or causality? Gus802 is finally back, finishing in third spot. Windupbird‘s contributions have been spotty ever since he came out as a white guy; this week he didn’t even make the top 25.

Update: Here are a couple of charts that help visualize where the current LGF is at in terms of weekly comments and commenters [charts current as of January 2011]. The format might be a little confusing – both charts each have two Y-axis scales, so you need to associate the proper Y-axis scale with the proper line in each chart. In both charts, the lefthand Y-axis scale is associated with the red line, and the righthand Y-axis scale is associated with the green line.

The top two suckage-efficacy leaders for the week remained unchanged. SteelPH and publicityStunted were top two suckups again, 2 & 1 respectively. No one other than one of those two nics has ever led the suckage-efficiency stat since we’ve been compiling it. The unfortunate budfox was banned by Charles after last week’s appearance here at DoD as a top three suckup, the appearance on last week’s list being the only discernible offense, all the more mysterious since the Lizardoid never reads here. CJ got 4 down dings this week: 2 from Buck, and 2 from Girl With A Pearl Earring.

And another math factoid. I did a cumulative distribution of all 6 weeks of updings to check out if the 80:20 Pareto Principle was in evidence… and for whatever reason, it’s more of a 70:20, or 80:25 — just like you observed a few weeks ago.

Now, mapping that back to what it means behaviorally…

Let’s assume that each registered LGF’er has 2 base drives in life:
1. commenting at LGF
2. praising Charles’s insightful commentary.

The strength of these compulsions will vary by lizard, the highly compelled to comment will comment more than those less compelled. The fact that your commenting plots nail the 80:20 point week in and week out seems to confirm that the commenting behavior of Lizardom conforms to oft observed norms.

But the 70:20 flattening of the suck-curve implies that there is less variance of the suckup-urge amongst the lizards. (If they all dinged equally, it would be a 50:50 diagonal line.)

The inescapable conclusion is that the desire within Lizardom to praise CJ is more widespread than the desire to actually engage in the conversation.

Or maybe not, but it sounds plausible.

Weekly comment stats for LGF for the week beginning 06/03/2011 thru 06/09/2011 (Friday thru Thursday).

Comments were way up at the swamp last week – call it the Weinergate effect. (There’s a riff on the rising tide lifts all boats aphorism in there somewhere, but it escapes me.) Windupbird is back in his full, glorious, greyness (he’s black!, he’s white!, he’s grey!), and Charles himself again was a top commenter with 283 comments.

Dee’s NYT article, characterizing LGF as ‘the blog version of Animal Farm’ where a couple of dozen posters are responsible for most of the comments is still accurate, though for one of the first times in memory the contribution of the top two dozen didn’t exceed 50%. Last week 25 lizards were responsible for 50.2% of all LGF comments for the week.

Also of note is that there were 297 unique nics commenting at LGF for the week, still far below LGF’s glory days, when LGF had roughly 2,000 unique commenters at LGF in its heyday, around 2008. [last week's stats]

Loyal lizard albusteve again led the field in posting comments at LGF. Albusteve is one of the special group of LGF-timeout survivors who found the re-education of the timeout both instructive and invigorating. So, hats off again (he’s a repeat winner) to this week’s Face of LGF, the new, Mr. Consistent-Five-Percenter Albusteve – LGF poster boy for “timeouts work, because I value my LGF account”.
