Anti-Muslim hatred in California:
On March 21, Shaima Alawadi, a 32-year-old Iraqi Muslim and mother of five, was found brutally beaten at her home in El Cajon, a community just east of San Diego that is home to more than 50,000 Iraqi immigrants. A note left next to her read, “go back to your country you terrorist …”
Even before Alawadi’s death, San Diego-area Muslims were experiencing a notable increase in discrimination, bullying, and physical assaults, according to the local Council on America-Islamic Relations …
The young mother’s killing is the latest in a disturbing increase in anti-Muslim incidents in and around San Diego.
Eight months after the beating death of an Iraqi-American woman that drew international attention because it appeared to be a hate crime, the woman’s husband has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.
Police in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon announced the arrest Friday of Kassim Alhimidi, 48, and described the killing as an act of domestic violence.
New information in the Shaima Alawadi murder case in El Cajon, Calif., suggests that the family was cracking over a forced marriage for daughter Fatima, 17, and that Alawadi herself was preparing to divorce her husband. If female freedom turns out to be at the heart of the murder, it will highlight not so much the intolerance of Muslim immigrants by Americans, but the cultural restrictions on women in those communities …
Quite so. Meanwhile, Alhimidi has pleaded not guilty.
UPDATE. Charles Johnson, March 25:
I have no doubt that the climate of deranged xenophobia and anti-Muslim hatred built and fed by people like Newt Gingrich, Pamela Geller, and Robert Spencer played a large part in this brutal crime.
Charles might want to correct that.
“People like Mark Steyn are just dishonest, bigoted opportunists” – look in the mirror (if you dare) Chunky and see a real dishonest, bigoted, opportunist.
Once upon a time Mark Steyn used to be a treasured columnist on LGF and his columns were regularly posted there.
The Charles Johnson of 2006 would not recognize the 2012 version.

What law school did he go to?
He may be a “lawhawk”, but he knows nothing about taxes!
Calling someone a Chihuahua is now considered racist at LGF. How they reached that conclusion eludes me. Dark Falcon in a moment of sanity, called that conclusion ridiculous. Charles apparently down dinged him and he went all apologetic.
Dark_Falcon, Charles doesn’t care about you now and never will. You have a real father, go to him for emotional support, and stop looking to LGF as a substitute “family”, remember what Charles Johnson did to his previous “family” (kicked them to the curb like a dog with fleas) – people who had shown him nothing but kindness and respect for years. You are not a stupid guy – find a job, make real friends, start a life for yourself (you are still young) and stay away from the embittered moonbat losers at LGF. No need for you to humble yourself before an unemployed, unstable, middle aged, and unexceptional man.
First, New Jersey’s legislature is Democratic controlled, second, New Jersey has extremely powerful unions, third, does Obama’s economic policies have anything to do with it?, fourth, I guess California’s high unemployment rate is Jerry Brown’s fault, Fifth, does the esteemed self proclaimed legal scholar (what Court is he on?) prefer the governorship of one Jon Corzine?
Fareed Zakaria whom Charles Johnson shows so much respect for and gives deference to, is suspended for plagiarism
The aging, self abusing creep has nothing to say about it but can you imagine if it were Charles Krauthammer, Laura Ingraham, or Jonah Goldberg who did the plagiarising – he would do 20 threads in three days on it. The thought that Zakaria (a Muslim) was considered to be a potential Secretary of State to replace Mrs. Clinton is enough to make you reach for the barf bag.
Fareed Zakaria pays the price for plagiarising
Washington, Aug 11 — Celebrated Indian-American journalist Fareed Zakaria paid the price for what he himself called “a terrible mistake” and “a serious lapse” as Time magazine and CNN suspended him for plagiarism.
Mumbai-born Zakaria, 48, who became editor-at-large of Time in 2010 and hosted CNN’s flagship foreign affairs show GPS, was suspended by the two media, both owned by Time Warner, after he apologised for plagiarising sections of his column on gun control in the Aug 20 issue of Time.
While Time’s suspension of Zakaria was for a month “pending further review”, CNN put no time limit on its removal of its celebrated host from its airwaves.
Zakaria, who was a columnist for Newsweek and editor of Newsweek International from 2000 to 2010, was even talked about as a potential secretary of state, with Esquire Magazine calling him “the most influential foreign policy adviser of his generation,” as his website proudly proclaims.
But the reaction to the fall of the celebrated journalist, who was honoured by India with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution towards journalism in 2010, was swift. Noted TV critic and author David Zurawik said, “Plagiarism used to be a deadly journalistic sin from which there often was no redemption.”
“Given the lack of values and ethics in journalism today, however, who knows what will happen to Zakaria,” Zurawik wondered in The Baltimore Sun, but he for one didn’t care “how smart someone is supposed to be, if they steal others’ ideas and words, they are dead to me as a source of intellectual or moral discourse”.
Zakaria’s suspension came as bloggers spotted similarities in some passages in his Time column, “The Case for Gun Control”, to those in a longer article on guns in America by the historian Jill Lepore, which appeared in the April 23 issue of The New Yorker.
Starting with the conservative website NewsBusters, the story quickly spread across the internet after appearing on the media blog JimRomenesko.com.
Zakaria responded with an abject apology, saying: “Media reporters have pointed out that paragraphs in my Time column this week bear close similarities to paragraphs in Jill Lepore’s essay in the April 23 issue of The New Yorker.”
“They are right. I made a terrible mistake. It is a serious lapse and one that is entirely my fault. I apologize unreservedly to her, to my editors at Time, and to my readers,” he admitted.
CNN followed suit, saying: “We have reviewed Fareed Zakaria’s Time column, for which he has apologized. He wrote a shorter blog post on CNN.com on the same issue which included similar unattributed excerpts. That blog post has been removed and CNN has suspended Fareed Zakaria while this matter is under review.”
Earlier this year, Yale and Harvard educated Zakaria was criticised for giving a commencement speech at Harvard that was very similar to the one he had earlier given at Duke.
I am surprised that Obama has not already hired the self proclaimed ‘lawhawk’.
The so called Lawhawk really is dumb and doesn’t know what he’s talking about!
lawhawk continues his descent to the dark side!
So let me get this straight – if you are drowning and a fellow tosses you a life jacket, you question his motivation? The fact of the matter is that the Democratic Party is loaded with anti Semites and Israel haters but the self proclaimed “lawhawk” (Why aren’t you on the Supreme Court any way?) thinks that Israel can afford to reject support based on peoples biblical beliefs. I guess they ought to take their chances with Barack Obama’s well known Judeophilia
Too bad that one of the more intelligent LGFers feels the need to gain the approval of an aging creep such as Charles F. Johnson. My question is – would lawhawk post any thread involving Islamic sexual practices, rapes of Kuffars, and female genital mutilation? I think we know the answer to that.
Lefty Blogger Accuses Ann Romney of “Racism” After She Says They Won’t Take As Many Vacations As The Obamas…
Yes, the left is getting this desperate.
Long time blog readers will know who this this washed-up clown Charles Johnson is, but for those who don’t he was once a prominent conservative blogger who decided he didn’t like being a prominent conservative blogger and made a hard left turn and with it went all his readers, traffic, dignity and shame. These days he languishes in obscurity trying to get people blocked from Twitter.
Let’s see, a gubernatorial candidate that finished 5th in the GOP primaries (and got less then 2% of the vote) and that nobody ever heard of, is a representative of Republicanism and conservatism. I guess Al Sharpton (a former Senate and presidential candidate) is representative of the Democratic Party and crack dealer Marion Barry is also your typical Democratic politician. LGF is as R.S. McCain referred to it as “a Dime store version of the Daily Kos”.
